Strategic Bonds for a Safer Tomorrow

Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), Admiral Samuel Paparo, called on the Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) at the Defence Ministry in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte today (Mar 20).

Defence Secretary warmly received the U.S. delegation led by Admiral Paparo and had a cordial discussion. The USINDOPACOM was accompanied by the Defence Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Nelson.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in discussions on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and regional security initiatives. They emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region through collaborative efforts and mutual understanding.

Air Vice Marshal Thuyacontha (Retd) expressed his appreciation for the longstanding defence partnership between Sri Lanka and the United States.

Admiral Paparo reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to enhancing defence ties with Sri Lanka and acknowledged the country’s strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their commitment to deepening defence cooperation and exploring new avenues for partnership. Mementoes were also shared to mark the occasion.

Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence and U.S. Embassy officials also joined the discussions.
