The Ministry of Defence has announced a comprehensive, multi-layered security framework to ensure the safe and successful conduct of the T20 Cricket World Championship in Sri Lanka. Recognizing the tournament’s international significance and the large influx of players, officials, media personnel, and spectators from around the world, the Ministry has coordinated an integrated security plan in close collaboration with the Sri Lanka Police, the Tri-Forces, intelligence agencies, and other key stakeholders.
Security arrangements have been put in place at all match venues, team hotels, training facilities, airports, and designated fan zones. The measures include round-the-clock perimeter security, strict access control procedures, vehicle screening points, and crowd management systems to maintain a safe and secure environment throughout the tournament.
Specialized security units have been deployed to provide close protection to participating teams, match officials, VIPs, and visiting diplomats. Advanced surveillance technologies, including extensive CCTV coverage and real-time intelligence coordination, have been implemented to ensure rapid response capabilities and heightened situational awareness. The Ministry has also strengthened airspace surveillance, while emergency response teams, including fully equipped medical units, will remain on standby at key locations.
The Ministry of Defence urges the general public, particularly spectators, to cooperate fully with security personnel, follow venue guidelines, maintain order, and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. These measures are designed to safeguard public safety while preserving the celebratory spirit of the tournament.
By implementing these robust security measures, Sri Lanka demonstrates its capability to host world-class international sporting events with professionalism and excellence. The Ministry remains committed to delivering a secure, safe, and memorable T20 Cricket World Championship for all participants and fans.
