Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: My wife has been an incredible source of support. She was a senior banker, and since we both understand the meaning of commitment, ACCOUNTABILITY and responsibility, we ensure that once we undertake a task, we carry it out with full dedication.
Q: Balancing multiple roles in business and social service must be challenging. How does your family support your work, and what role does your wife play in managing these responsibilities?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: My wife is the CEO of my companies and manages all operations efficiently. Her leadership ensures that everything runs smoothly, allowing me to focus on broader strategies and community work.
Q: Your wife, Shiranee, has had a successful career in banking. How has her experience influenced your business decisions?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: She has deep expertise in financial management and company operations. Her insights are invaluable in managing both financial planning and daily operations across the group.
Q: How do you manage your personal life alongside demanding business and social responsibilities? What advice would you give to others seeking a similar balance?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: Never postpone what needs to be done today. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance, and don’t waste energy on less critical matters.
Q: As a father, what values or lessons do you hope to pass on to the next generation?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: AS A PERSON I firmly believe the best lesson is to never give up and always think positively. Embrace challenges—nothing is impossible if you have the right mindset.
Q: How do you help instill a sense of social responsibility in younger generations?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: The environment is my favorite area of focus. EDUCATING YOUNG GENERATION about waste management, CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION, and RESPONSIBLE WAY OF DISPOSING OF WASTE, which starts FROM HOME. It’s important that they ADOPT those PRACTICES outside their homes as well, contributing to a cleaner, more responsible society—BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.
Q: Your role as Director of the Suwa Arana Trust highlights your commitment to underprivileged communities. How do you and your organization foster a culture of giving back?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: WHEN I WAS THE GOVERNOR OF DISTRICT 306B2 – YEAR 2021–2022, we were able to get a grant from LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION to construct the third floor of the Suwa Arana Pediatric Palliative Care Centre.
Q: You’ve led several organizations. What’s the most important lesson leadership has taught you?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: Be happy and enjoy what you do. Be loyal to your organization and carry out your responsibilities with dedication and commitment. That attitude builds trust and drives progress.
Q: Your career has been successful, and your family clearly plays a central role. How do you make time to nurture those relationships?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: NEED TO TAKE CARE OF FAMILY HOW MUCH EVER YOU ARE BUSY BESIDE THE COMMITMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Family has to be given priority. WITH THE HELP OF MY FAMILY, WHERE MY WIFE TAKES CARE OF THE COMPANIES’ OPERATIONS, I AM FINDING TIME TO SERVE THE INDUSTRY AND ASSOCIATIONS.
Q: As the newly elected President of the National Chamber of Exporters, what is your vision for Sri Lanka’s export sector?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: I’m confident we can reach our $19 billion export target and grow beyond $30 billion by 2030. We will support all exporters—both established and emerging—in achieving their goals and navigating global markets. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE ASPIRING EXPORTERS, WHERE WE ARE CONFIDENT WE WILL BE ABLE TO PROMOTE AT LEAST 100 ASPIRING EXPORTERS WITHIN THIS YEAR. WE WILL CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXPORTERS AND ASPIRING EXPORTERS FOR MORE INTERACTIONS WITH BUYERS.
Q: Looking back, what advice would you give to entrepreneurs striving to balance professional and personal commitments?
Indhra Kaushal Rajapaksa: Manage wisely with the resources you have. Respect the environment—it will protect you in return. And above all, be honest, humble, and willing to admit mistakes, correct them, and keep moving forward.
