Unwrapping the Future of Food Packaging
National Packaging Centre (NPC) of the EDB was established for the promotion and development of the Packaging industry in Sri Lanka. It supports a wide range of stakeholders, including exporters, manufacturers, designers, SMEs, women entrepreneurs, students, and research institutions. By fostering collaboration among the government bodies and other partners, the NPC is playing a vital role in advancing Sri Lanka’s packaging industry and supporting sustainable growth in the agricultural export sector.
Accordingly, an awareness session focusing the packaging of Food Products was recently conducted at the Export Development Board (EDB). A main objective of conducting this awareness session is to make awareness on packaging of food items to cater both the local & international markets.
The session was conducted in collaboration with the Packaging Experts of the Industry, Print Care- Digital Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, CMC Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, an expert Packaging Consultant, with the participation of More than 100 exporters and potential exporters.
This session featured insightful lectures by Mr. W. Abhaya Senavirathna – Packaging Consultant, Mr. Nuwan Widyapathige – General Manager Print Care Digital Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, Mr. Amal Polgampala, Print Care Digital Solutions (Pvt) Ltd and Mr. Sanath Wanigasekara CMC Engineering (Pvt) Ltd.
Key topics such as Introduction to Packaging – Importance & functions, packaging of selected food Regulatory aspects and packaging labelling and Packaging Machinery – An overview of equipment used in food packaging as a practical session were covered. Participants also learned about the importance of effective packaging, selection of the most effective methods, and selecting the right materials to prevent product degradation.
At the end of the program, an evaluation was conducted, revealing that due to the significant contributions made by the resource persons in enhancing capacity and knowledge, the participants gained valuable insights on the subject and highly appreciated the usefulness of the program.
