The Acting Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) chaired a meeting yesterday (Jan 17) to address the welfare issues of the families of fallen war heroes and disabled veterans.
Discussions focused on the progress made since the previous meeting and persistent challenges faced by families of fallen heroes and disabled veterans. The Committee underscored the importance of a systematic approach to resolving these issues effectively and efficiently.
The Acting Minister emphasized the necessity of implementing collaborative measures that prioritize the welfare of war veterans and their families. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to delivering impactful and sustainable outcomes.
Following the meeting, a media briefing was conducted to provide updates on the progress of the welfare measures being taken, where he emphasized that the present government remains dedicated to addressing the needs of these families and ensuring their well-being through prompt and practical solutions.
The meeting, held at the Deputy Minister’s office in Colombo was attended by the Additional Secretary- Defence, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Welfare Committee, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies, Chairman of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, Director of the Pensions Department, Tri Forces Chiefs of Staff, relevant Directors of the Tri-Forces, and senior Tri Forces and Defence Ministry officers.
